City offers free transit for life in exchange for cars

The south-eastern Spanish city of Murcia is offering residents free lifetime transit passes if they give up their cars in an effort to solve traffic and parking problems and reduce emissions.

Residents in the city of about 440,000 people can exchange their cars, which must be in working order and with a valid safety certificate, in return for a lifetime pass for a new tram system (pictured) which began operating in June.
