Eliminate pet licensing, Toronto told

A report into Toronto's licensing activities recommends eliminating unnecessary, non-essential licensing.

The report, released Monday, recommends the elimination of the city's long-criticized pet licensing program, reducing some animal-related services, outsourcing waste-diversion enforcement, and generally reducing “the level of proactive investigation and enforcement of business licensing.”

Pet licensing is a particularly pointless form of bureaucracy which many cities (and some countries, such as England) are abandoning as a waste of time and money.  In Toronto, only 30 per cent of dogs and 10 per cent of cats are licensed.
